Hydrogen–oxygen inhalation

Breathe easy and explore the potential of molecular hydrogen. Suncoast uses the AquaCure AC-50 for hydrogen–oxygen inhalation alongside acupuncture, with a focus on the emerging research into oxidative stress, inflammation, and exercise recovery.

  1. Generate

The AquaCure AC-50 uses electrolysis to produce hydrogen and oxygen from water.

  2. Breathe

Gas is delivered through breathing equipment during your appointment.

  3. Personalize

Dr. Kari connects the emerging research with your history and goals.

Make it relevant to your day

What brings you here?

Choose an example to prepare for your visit—not to determine which treatment you need.

Exercise & recovery

Explore the recovery research

If training or an active routine brings you here, discuss the early research on exercise performance and oxidative-stress markers. Choose a recovery goal while keeping rest, nutrition, and appropriate injury care central to your plan.

A question to bring

“How does the hydrogen research relate to my activity and recovery goals?”

Restorative care

Make room to settle in

Hydrogen–oxygen inhalation can be included alongside acupuncture. Talk with Dr. Kari about the experience you want and how this addition fits your appointment.

A question to bring

“What would an acupuncture visit with the AquaCure AC-50 involve?”

What hydrogen–oxygen inhalation is

Hydrogen–oxygen inhalation delivers molecular hydrogen and oxygen through breathing equipment while you rest. Molecular hydrogen, written H₂, is a small gas molecule that can diffuse across cell membranes. Researchers are investigating how it influences oxidative stress and inflammatory signaling, making it an active area of interest in recovery and supportive care.

Our equipment: AquaCure AC-50

Suncoast uses the AquaCure AC-50 by Eagle-Research. The machine uses electrolysis, an electrical process that separates water into hydrogen and oxygen, to generate gas on demand. This mixture is also known as Brown’s Gas, HydrOxy, or HHO. The AC-50 features adjustable gas output, and Dr. Kari explains the delivery setup used for your visit.

Oxidative stress and antioxidant potential

Your body naturally produces reactive molecules during metabolism and physical activity. Oxidative stress occurs when their production exceeds the body’s ability to manage them. Hydrogen is being studied for its potential to influence this balance and the signaling involved in cellular protection. This antioxidant potential is a central reason researchers are exploring molecular hydrogen in supportive care.

Inflammation and exercise recovery

Recovery after demanding activity is one of the most relevant areas of hydrogen research. Small human studies have explored exercise performance, antioxidant capacity, and inflammatory markers. A 2019 placebo-controlled crossover pilot in 20 young adults reported an improvement in peak running velocity. A 2025 study in 31 athletes, including eight receiving hydrogen, reported favorable changes in selected oxidative-stress and inflammatory markers. These are encouraging early findings, not established treatment outcomes for soreness, injury, or chronic inflammation.

What the evidence means for you

Human hydrogen research is promising but still developing. Studies use different devices, gas concentrations, delivery methods, and schedules; results from hydrogen-rich drinking water are also different from inhalation evidence. The studies linked here do not establish the effectiveness of the AquaCure AC-50 for a medical condition or guarantee a benefit from a clinic session. We use this evidence to guide a clear conversation about potential benefits and realistic expectations.

Planning your visit & more details

A restorative addition to acupuncture

At Suncoast, inhalation can accompany your acupuncture appointment, giving you time to settle in while your care is tailored around your goals. You might be interested in the recovery research or simply want to learn how molecular hydrogen fits a broader wellness plan. Dr. Kari helps you choose a practical goal and decide whether to include it.

What to expect during your visit

Before you begin, Dr. Kari reviews your health history and explains the breathing interface, positioning, and session plan. You can rest during the appointment and let the team know how you feel. Report breathing discomfort, dizziness, headache, or feeling unwell promptly. Confirm session length, preparation, and pricing when booking.

Personalized care and suitability

Tell Dr. Kari about lung or heart conditions, prescribed oxygen, pregnancy, medicines, and previous reactions to inhaled treatments. Hydrogen–oxygen inhalation is different from prescribed oxygen and hyperbaric oxygen therapy; keep your existing medical care in place. Hydrogen is flammable and oxygen supports combustion, so device maintenance, ventilation, and ignition precautions matter. Your consultation covers suitability and how the equipment is used before treatment.

A little clarity

Your questions, answered.

What machine does Suncoast use?

We use the AquaCure AC-50 by Eagle-Research. It uses electrolysis to generate a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen from water, often called Brown’s Gas or HHO. Dr. Kari explains the delivery setup and how it fits your appointment.

What is hydrogen inhalation good for?

Its main areas of research include oxidative-stress balance, inflammatory responses, and exercise performance and recovery. Early human studies have reported encouraging changes in some markers and performance measures. Benefits are still being established, and those studies do not prove that the AC-50 produces the same results.

Is this the same as oxygen therapy?

No. The focus here is molecular hydrogen delivered in a hydrogen–oxygen mixture. It is different from prescribed supplemental oxygen and from hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which uses a pressurized chamber. Continue any prescribed respiratory care.

How does it fit with acupuncture?

Inhalation can be included alongside your acupuncture visit. Dr. Kari reviews your health history, explains the equipment, and discusses your goals before you begin. Timing and pricing are confirmed when you arrange your visit.
